(2-2) Sardine 2 gets its velocity boosted since at the instant Nefertiti releases it, she is moving towards you because of the rotation of the merry-go-round. On the other hand Sardine 1 is released while the merry-go-round is carrying her away from you, so its velocity is decreased. Consequently sardine 1 will have the longer flight time (and hurt less when it hits you).

Nefertiti would say that she throws each sardine with a velocity v.  From your point of view, though, a sardine she releases as the rotation is bringing her towards you will have a velocity of v+u, whereas when she's moving away from you, the sardine velocity will be v-u.
