Schrödinger's Cormorant has been put together by me, Phil Evans.

Some years ago, I decided to write a book.  A considerable period of time later, I managed to produce a draft. It was going to be called "How to learn to stop worrying and love the Schrödinger equation".  I sent it off eagerly to a number of publishers and - have you guessed? - none of them wanted it. After an appropriate period of sulking, I then decided - just in case there might be some people who would find it helpful and interesting - to make it available as a free website, instead. Actually, I think it probably works better this way, with buttons allowing you to navigate between the text, questions and answers more easily than you would flipping through the pages of a book. Or, at least, that's what I tell myself when I'm sad about never getting to see my name on the spine of a book ......

I'm a retired teacher in England. This project was inspired initially by conversations with sixth-form students (that is, 16 to 18 year olds)  who were anxious to go beyond what they learned at school and find out about some of the cool and mind-bending physics that is ignored or, at most, just hinted at in the formal educational curriculum at that level. More than a few, wanting to explore beyond what they encountered at school,  were frustrated by having to choose between resources that were too accessible (denying them the opportunity to flex their own mathematical muscles and to feel that they had earned for themselves the knowledge they were picking up) and other, formal, treatments that they often found totally inaccessible.  That is the gap that I thought I would try to fill.

I hope that the exploration of special relativity and quantum mechanics that has become Schrödinger's Cormorant provides might appeal to lots of people, not only that initial target audience.  You may have finished high school - recently or ages ago - but a little bit of mathematical know-how is all you need (and even if you think you've forgotten it, it's like riding a bike: you'll soon get back up to speed).

It's a very simple site - it's completely free, it's not selling anything and there is no advertising. I have provided an email contact and would be delighted to hear from you:  otherwise there is no need to provide any personal data to use it. Just try it and see if you like it.
